40-year-old man arrested over shooting in Portalegre
The Judicial Police arrested a 40-year-old fugitive in Castelo Branco on Thursday. The man is suspected of attempting to kill another individual by shooting on 20 April, in a car park next to a large store in the city of Portalegre.
The victim, aged 33, suffered injuries to his left arm and legs after being hit by projectiles. The shooter fired five shots in total, according to an account by the Judicial Police.
The motive for the attack stems from longstanding grievances between two families. The detainee believed the targeted man belonged to the rival group. Following the incident, the attacker went into hiding and his whereabouts remained uncertain for weeks.
Investigators from the Local Unit of Évora, with collaboration from the Criminal Investigation Department of the Guarda, located the suspect. He will now be brought before court for questioning, where the judge will decide on possible imprisonment or other restrictions.
