42-year-old man arrested in Sintra over fraud involving false police operation with €21,500
The GNR arrested a 42-year-old suspect in Sintra who was simulating house searches with forged documents in order to defraud victims. The detainee was remanded in custody.
Suspect arrested in Sintra for simulating police searches to defraud victims
The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Sintra Territorial Detachment of the GNR arrested, on Monday, 1 June, a 42-year-old man on suspicion of qualified fraud in the municipality of Sintra, reports correiodesintra.pt.
The investigation began following a complaint indicating that a group of individuals had posed as members of a security force, simulating house searches to steal approximately €21,500 from victims.
The investigation made it possible to identify and locate one of the suspects on the same day of the incident, as well as the vehicle allegedly used in the criminal operation. The arrest was carried out pursuant to warrants issued by the Criminal Police Authority, outside of flagrante delicto.
During the operation, Guarda personnel recovered part of the alleged stolen amount and seized €4,455 in cash, an expandable baton, ammunition of 6.35-millimetre calibre, a vehicle, an identity badge and forged warrants — allegedly used to deceive the victims — as well as pieces of clothing belonging to the suspect.
The detainee was brought before the Sintra Judicial Court for initial judicial interrogation, and the most serious coercive measure was applied to him: remand in custody.
