A drug-dependent 52-year-old was arrested in Cascais after weeks of assaulting his sick stepfather and pointing a gun at his head to extort money for drugs.
Man detained in Cascais following weeks of violence against stepfather
A 52-year-old man is being held in preventative custody after being detained by investigators from Cascais PSP for domestic violence, according to Correio da Manhã. The suspect, who is drug-dependent, repeatedly assaulted his stepfather—a sick 66-year-old man—and even pointed a handgun at his head to demand money for drug purchases.
The detainee lived with his mother and the main victim of the assaults. He demanded money from both of them to sustain his drug habit. It was, however, his stepfather who suffered the most serious attacks: assaulted by punches and kicks on several occasions, he was even hospitalised following one of the violence episodes.
The PSP gathered evidence over the following weeks and carried out the detention last Thursday. During the operation, a 6.35 mm calibre handgun used in the threats and nine rounds of the same calibre were seized. Presented to court, the defendant was subject to the most serious coercive measure: preventative custody.
