A man was seriously injured in the early hours of Thursday after being struck with a glass bottle in Refojos de Basto. The suspect, approximately 20 years old, was identified by the GNR but was not arrested.
Glass bottle assault leaves victim unconscious in Refojos de Basto
A 62-year-old man was seriously injured in the early hours of Thursday after being struck with a glass bottle at Lugar de Quinchoso, in Refojos de Basto, in the municipality of Cabeceiras de Basto. According to Correio da Manhã, the assault was allegedly preceded by insults from the victim, and both those involved were intoxicated, according to a police source.
The alert was received at 02:00. Fire crews from Cabeceiras de Basto, accompanied by an immediate life support ambulance, and the GNR were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, firefighters found the victim unconscious.
The man was treated at the scene and transported to Guimarães Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition.
The suspect, approximately 20 years old, was identified by authorities, but the GNR did not proceed with any arrest.
