As observador.pt reported, the GNR detained a 68-year-old man on Monday in the municipality of Portalegre, suspected of exercising "psychological violence" against his 57-year-old wife. The detention occurred as part of a criminal investigation conducted by the Portalegre Territorial Command.
Officers carried out inquiries that confirmed a pattern of domestic violence against the victim, and executed a detention warrant. In the course of the same investigation, a house search warrant and a non-residential search warrant were also executed.
In the searches, the Guard seized a 6.35 millimetre calibre firearm, 26 rounds of ammunition of the same calibre, two magazines with their respective documentation and an axe.
The accused was brought before Portalegre Court, which applied a set of precautionary measures against him. He is prohibited from contacting the victim in any way or by any means and from approaching her residence and workplace within a radius of 500 metres, with compliance monitored through an electronic ankle bracelet. The court also determined that the man cannot acquire, use, possess or keep any firearms or ammunition.
