A 72-year-old man was arrested in flagrante delicto for the sexual abuse of an 80-year-old resident in a care home for the elderly in Arouca, in the district of Aveiro.

The Judicial Police (PJ) announced on Monday the arrest in flagrante delicto of a 72-year-old man for the sexual abuse of an 80-year-old woman resident in a care home for the elderly in Arouca, in the district of Aveiro. The case was reported by Google News PT — Crime (pt) based on information from the Lusa news agency.
In a statement, the PJ described the victim as "extremely vulnerable" due to her state of health, being completely dependent on the institution's staff. "She has no speech capacity and severely reduced mobility, meaning she is incapable of resisting any assault," the authority added.
The suspect was found inside the victim's bedroom engaging in sexual acts of significance. He is now charged with the crime of sexual abuse of a person incapable of resistance.
The detainee will be presented for questioning before a judge at the Court of São João da Madeira, where measures of detention will be determined.
