Correio da Manhã reported that a 42-year-old man was remanded in custody after being caught with 2,786 individual doses of heroin in the civil parish of Cabouco, in the municipality of Lagoa, on the island of São Miguel, in the Azores.

The detention was carried out in flagrant delict by the Criminal Investigation Brigade of Lagoa Police Station, integrated into the Ponta Delgada Police Division, on suspicion of committing a drug trafficking crime. The PSP announced the operation on Friday.

According to the Regional Command of the PSP in the Azores, domestic and non-domestic searches carried out following the detention made it possible to seize the 2,786 doses, as well as money and other objects associated with the criminal activity. The authorities classified this seizure as the largest recorded in this drug in the municipality of Lagoa in recent years.

Following judicial questioning, the defendant was subjected to the measure of remand in custody.
