PSP detained a man on Tuesday, 2 June, armed at Almada Fórum shopping centre in Almada, reports dn.pt. Authorities were alerted to the presence of a suspicious individual in the dining area of the premises.
According to a statement from the Setúbal District Command, the intervention was launched given the large number of people in the location. "In light of the seriousness of the information received and given the large number of citizens present at the location, a police operation was launched, aimed at neutralising any potential threat and safeguarding the safety of those present at that location," PSP stated.
When officers intercepted the suspect, he was carrying concealed on his body a Walther pistol of 7.65mm calibre, loaded and ready to fire. He was also carrying a bag with three additional magazines, totalling 27 rounds, narcotic substances and a €50 note with strong indications of being counterfeit.
In the course of investigations, authorities ascertained that an arrest warrant was pending against the detainee for execution of a sentence of two years' effective imprisonment. The individual was immediately taken to the respective prison facility.
