PSP in Espinho arrested a 45-year-old man who had barricaded himself inside a dwelling, threatening to set it on fire. The episode occurred in a context of domestic violence and endangered around 20 residents of the four-storey building.

According to Correio da Manhã, the victim, upon realising around 23:00 that the suspect was inside the apartment with intentions of causing a fire, requested assistance from the PSP station.

The officers, after assessing the risk to the building's residents, intervened rapidly to prevent the man from carrying out the threat. The individual had an inflammable liquid and was determined to cause ignition.

Given the suspect's lack of cooperation, the security forces had to enter the dwelling through a window. They managed to intercept the man before he caused further damage.

The detainee was taken to the PSP station in Espinho, being charged with the crime of common danger. He will be brought before the criminal investigation court for initial judicial interrogation, where measures of restraint to be applied will be determined.
