A 30-year-old man was arrested by the PSP in the early hours of Tuesday after being caught in-flagrante committing an assault on his partner in Baixa de Lisboa. The arrest took place at 00:40, in the parish of Santo António.

A PSP patrol passing through the area heard the man shouting. As they approached, officers witnessed the moment when the attacker snatched a bag and a jacket from the young woman, aged 23, and strangled her neck with his hands.

The police intervention proved difficult, with officers struggling to stop the violence and immobilise the detainee.

The victim later explained to police that the attack had originated from a discussion between the couple and had been motivated by jealousy on the part of her partner.

The man was brought before a court, where a restraining order prohibiting him from contacting the victim was imposed.
