Man arrested in São Miguel for rape and burglary
A 56-year-old suspect was arrested in São Miguel after sexually assaulting a 20-year-old woman in a residential property where she was employed. The Judicial Police detained him on the same day of the offence.

The Judicial Police arrested a 56-year-old man in São Miguel, in the Azores, on strong suspicion of the crimes of rape and unlawful entry into a dwelling, committed on Friday, 25 September, according to jornalacores9.pt.
The victim, a 20-year-old woman, was alone in a residential property where she was providing cleaning services when she was allegedly surprised by the suspect. According to the PJ, the man gained unlawful access to the property via a ladder which he used to carry out exterior painting work on the dwelling.
The investigation established that the suspect used violence to force the woman into sexual acts constituting the crime of rape. The victim reported the facts to the authorities immediately, which allowed the Criminal Investigation Department of the Azores to conclude the investigation and make the arrest still on the same day.
The defendant was brought before an initial judicial hearing and was remanded in custody. The inquiry is being conducted by the DIAP of the Azores Judicial District, Ponta Delgada Section.
