Escape and arrest in Moita: suspect caught with weapon ready to fire

The GNR arrested a 41-year-old man in Moita on Friday afternoon, suspected of dangerous driving and unlawful possession of a firearm, according to CNN Portugal. A loaded Smith & Wesson revolver ready to fire was seized from his possession, along with approximately a dozen rounds of ammunition.

The incident began on Estrada Pinhal das Formas, during a road traffic inspection operation, when a first vehicle ignored the order to stop from the military personnel and fled.

During the pursuit, a second car appeared and reportedly attempted to block the patrol's passage, in an apparent attempt to protect the first driver and facilitate the escape. The driver of this second vehicle also ended up leaving the scene at high speed, breaking several traffic rules.

With support from the GNR's Setúbal Territorial Command, the military personnel managed to intercept and immobilise the vehicle. The suspect was arrested and made a defendant, being subject to a bond of identity and residence. The facts were communicated to the Moita Department of Investigation and Penal Action.
