The Judicial Police arrested a 52-year-old man suspected of raping a 62-year-old woman on a municipal road in Odemira on 24 September.

The Judicial Police, through the Criminal Investigation Department in Portimão, arrested a 52-year-old man on suspicion of committing a rape that occurred on 24 September in the Odemira area, according to policiajudiciaria.pt.
The victim, a 62-year-old woman who was hiking, was walking on a municipal road at around midday when she felt a vehicle approach and stop behind her. The suspect got out of the car, grabbed her from behind, restrained her and threw her to the ground in the middle of the road.
The passage of another vehicle and the victim's cries for help led the suspect to flee in the vehicle he was driving. The driver who was passing through the area assisted the woman and contacted the authorities, with the Judicial Police subsequently taking over the investigation.
During the investigation, evidence was gathered that investigators considered strongly indicative of the suspect's responsibility, resulting in his arrest outside of flagrante delicto.
The detainee will be presented for preliminary judicial questioning for the application of appropriate precautionary measures. The inquiry is under the charge of the Public Ministry of Odemira.
