Man arrested for rape at residence on São Miguel island
A 56-year-old man was arrested on São Miguel island for rape and unlawful entry into a residence. The victim, aged 20, was assaulted while working alone at the location.

The Judicial Police arrested, outside of flagrante delicto, a 56-year-old man strongly suspected of the crimes of rape and violation of domicile, which occurred on Friday, 25 September, on the island of São Miguel, according to policiajudiciaria.pt.
The victim, a 20-year-old woman, was alone in the residence where she was carrying out a cleaning service when the suspect illegally entered the property. Access was gained via a ladder used for painting work on the exterior of the building.
Using violence, the suspect forced the woman to engage in sexual acts constituting the crime of rape.
The victim reported the facts immediately, which allowed the Criminal Investigation Department of the Azores of the PJ to begin the investigation and carry out the arrest on the same day.
Brought before his first judicial interrogation, the arrested person was subjected to the coercive measure of preventive detention.
The investigation is being conducted by the DIAP of the Azores District — Ponta Delgada Section.
