Man detained by PSP after running over ex-partner in Lisbon
Police authorities have detained a 59-year-old man suspected of intentionally running over his ex-partner in the Lisbon area. The man has a serious history of domestic violence, having previously served a prison sentence for the murder of another former partner.
The incident occurred when the aggressor, driven by jealousy and the desire to prevent the victim from beginning a new relationship, decided to run her over with a vehicle. The woman was struck by the car driven by her ex-partner, suffering injuries that required medical assistance.
The arrest of the suspect was made by the Public Security Police (PSP), which is now investigating the exact circumstances of the case. The detainee, given his criminal history of homicide, presents a profile of high danger, having repeated patterns of extreme violence against intimate partners.
The case reinforces the importance of monitoring aggressors with a history of serious domestic violence, particularly those who have already committed lethal crimes against former partners. The judicial authorities must now assess the need to keep the individual in pre-trial detention, considering the evident risk of reoffending.
The victim of the hit-and-run is receiving medical care, whilst the criminal proceedings advance to the competent authorities.
