Murder in Loures: 26-year-old man detained after shooting over land dispute

A 26-year-old man has been arrested in Loures on suspicion of murder with a firearm, following a dispute with a 41-year-old neighbour over land.

Suspect detained hours after fatal shooting in Loures

The Judicial Police detained a 26-year-old man in the early hours of 4 October, strongly suspected of murdering a neighbour, according to rr.pt. The crime, committed with a firearm, took place in the Loures area, Lisbon district, one day before the detention.

The victim, 41 years old, was struck by a gunshot to the head and died at the scene. After the crime, the suspect fled. Officers from the Judicial Police's Lisbon and Vale do Tejo Directorate proceeded to identify and detain him a few hours later.

In a statement, the Judicial Police explained that "the motivation for the crime is believed to be related to a dispute between the aggressor and victim, neighbours in the area where they lived, concerning the land where they lived".

The detained man was brought before Loures Criminal Court of Inquiry, which imposed the precautionary measure of pre-trial detention. The investigation is proceeding at the Investigation and Criminal Action Department of the Lisbon North District Court — Loures.
