The Judicial Police arrested a septuagenarian in the municipality of Tarouca, in the district of Viseu, who is strongly suspected of attempted qualified homicide, property damage and threats.
The events took place in the early morning of 25 June in a public space. The detainee, aged 74, and the injured person became involved in a dispute which escalated into physical assault.
According to the investigation, the reasons for the conflict were related to work-related issues. The tensions are believed to have started the previous day, when the suspect allegedly damaged a car and intimidated the victim's wife.
In the early morning that followed, the elderly man allegedly used a sharp object to wound the other man in the chest region. The severity of the wound required medical care on site, followed by transport to hospital. The victim has since been discharged.
The accused will be brought before Lamego Court for preliminary questioning and for measures of constraint to be decided.
