Santo Tirso institution victim of cyber attack
The computer systems of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Santo Tirso were compromised during the weekend, with the anomaly discovered on Monday morning. Ricardo Baptista, the institution's provost, confirmed the facts to Lusa.
The consequences of the digital incident are evident particularly in outpatient services. The official indicated that it was necessary to cancel appointments scheduled at the gastroenterology clinic. However, he assured that support for residents of the elderly care facilities continues without disruption.
The entity alerted the Judicial Police to the incident. The servers were disconnected from the internet and a specialist firm was called to determine the point of entry of the intruders and map the damage.
Baptista was unable to specify when everything would return to normal, as the timeline depends on the extent of the damage and the vulnerability exploited by the digital attackers. So far, no ransom demand has been received.
In an internal circular, Susana Freitas, responsible for financial and information systems areas, instructed staff not to manipulate equipment, not to open messages or files of questionable origin, and to avoid the use of USB drives.
