17-year-old suspect held on remand following stabbing attack in Loures
The Criminal Police (Polícia Judiciária) detained a 17-year-old youth, a foreign national, strongly suspected of committing attempted aggravated homicide in the municipality of Loures, reports sol.iol.pt.
The attack occurred on 1 September in an isolated location. The suspect allegedly inflicted multiple stab wounds with a sharp weapon to the head of a 14-year-old teenager, causing serious lacerating and penetrating wounds and extremely severe cranial trauma.
The victim remains hospitalised in a coma, with a prognosis considered "very reserved" by the Criminal Police.
Investigations by the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo Directorate enabled sufficient evidence to be gathered to identify, locate and detain the suspect. The investigation revealed a relevant detail: the two teenagers knew each other. "The victim and suspect were friends," the Criminal Police states, adding that the motive for the crime remains to be determined.
The youth appeared before a judge for a preliminary hearing and was remanded in custody.
The investigation is being handled by the Public Prosecution Service (DIAP) for the District of Lisbon North, in Loures.
