Young man arrested in Maia suspected of killing stepfather in early morning hours

A 20-year-old was arrested on Sunday by the Judicial Police on suspicion of having killed his stepfather, aged 50, in the early hours of that same day. The crime occurred at the residence of both, in the parish of Vermoim, in the municipality of Maia, district of Porto, according to information provided by the PJ.

According to Google News PT — Crime (pt), investigators concluded, based on the evidence gathered, that suspect and victim had an argument before the assault. "The suspect and the victim allegedly argued, after which the suspect armed himself with a white weapon and struck blows to the victim's thorax and abdominal region, allegedly to defend himself and his mother," reads the PJ statement.

After the crime, the young man left home "disoriented". The victim managed to call for help by telephone to the PSP, but did not survive his injuries.

The suspect, aware that he was being sought by the authorities, voluntarily presented himself at a PSP police station, where he was arrested by the PJ. He was subsequently transferred to the prison establishment attached to that police force.

The detainee will be presented for his first court hearing on Monday, at which point the measures of restraint to be applied should be defined.
