Stepson detained following homicide with bladed weapon in Maia

A 50-year-old man was found dead in the early hours of Sunday at his residence in Maia after being stabbed by his stepson, aged 20, according to CNN Portugal.

The victim had wounds to the abdomen, the thorax and a blow to the head. When authorities arrived at the scene, the man was already deceased.

According to the investigation, the two had had a discussion before the young man dealt several blows with a bladed weapon.

The suspect fled following the assaults but was intercepted during the morning of Sunday at Praça D. João I in Porto, following the efforts undertaken by the authorities. He was subsequently taken to the Polícia Judiciária facilities, which assumed the investigation of the case.

The young man also indicated to the authorities the location of the weapon used in the homicide. Present before the criminal investigating judge at the Tribunal de Matosinhos, he was remanded in custody.

A judicial source told Lusa that the accused claimed to have been a victim of assaults by his stepfather, in a relationship marked by alleged domestic conflicts.
