A young man was left in critical condition after being struck by a gunshot to the head at a café in Vizela. The shot, allegedly accidental, was fired by a 25-year-old friend, the owner of the establishment.

Accidental shooting at Vizela café leaves young man in intensive care

A 21-year-old man is hospitalised in the Intensive Care Unit of Braga Hospital after being struck by a gunshot to the head in the early hours of Wednesday, 2 September, at a café in Vizela, in the district of Braga. According to Público, the Judicial Police classified the shooting as "accidental".

The person who fired the shot is the owner of the establishment, aged 25, who was allegedly showing an illegal firearm to a group of friends when the shot was discharged. The victim was left in a "very serious" state, according to a source from the Judicial Police cited by Lusa.

The Judicial Police identified the suspect and constituted him as a defendant, but did not proceed with his arrest, "as the necessary requirements for doing so were not met". The investigation continues to ascertain all the circumstances of the incident.
