Portuguese authorities arrested a 24-year-old individual in the locality of Lagoa, in the Algarve region. The man is accused of maintaining and circulating digital content that documents the sexual exploitation of children, a practice that is said to have begun in 2023 and continued until the date of his arrest.
The operation was initiated by the Judicial Police, which had been investigating the suspect's activity for some time. According to the Sul Informação portal, the detainee used electronic equipment to access, store and send the said materials on a recurring basis.
The case is under the purview of the Public Ministry of Portimão. The accused will be heard at a preliminary court hearing, where the court will decide on the restrictions to liberty that will be imposed on him during proceedings.
Investigations are continuing in order to map the entirety of the suspect's network of contacts and verify the existence of other people implicated in this type of digital criminality.
