Young man stabs adoptive father and neighbour in Monção and remanded in custody

A 22-year-old man will await trial in custody after stabbing his adoptive father and an elderly neighbour on Saturday afternoon in Bairro do Estandarte, Monção. The neighbour, 80 years old, remains hospitalised in the Intensive Care Unit of São João Hospital in Porto, in serious condition with risk to life, according to Correio da Manhã.
The suspect, identified as Kauan Santos, unemployed and of Brazilian nationality, was presented on Monday for his first judicial interrogation at Viana do Castelo Court. He chose to make a statement and claimed that his father frequently threatened him. The version presented did not convince the investigating judge, who decided to apply the most serious measure of restraint. He is charged with two counts of attempted homicide and possession of a prohibited weapon.
The attack occurred on Saturday at 15:15 at the family home in Monção. The adoptive father managed to leave the house to escape his son's violence and headed to the GNR post, located approximately 200 metres away. Kauan Santos followed him, weapon in hand, and along the way dealt a deep blow to the back of an 81-year-old elderly man who was sitting at his front door.
The violence of the blow was such that the knife remained embedded in the victim's spine. The instrument was only removed during surgery at São João Hospital in Porto, where the elderly man remains in a coma and at risk of life.
Kauan Santos was detained in flagrante by Monção GNR. The investigation was handled by the Judicial Police of Braga, who carried out examinations at the scene and questioned several witnesses.
