The Judicial Police announced, on Wednesday, 30 September, the arrest in Tavira of a man of Portuguese-French dual nationality, aged 40, wanted by French authorities for arms trafficking, as reported by sulinformacao.pt.
The facts date back to 2023, when customs officials inspected a vehicle driven by the suspect at a motorway toll booth. Inside the car they found 18,720 euros in cash, two grenades, an unloaded pistol, an empty magazine and five 9 mm calibre bullets.
Subsequent investigations identified other cases of transport of prohibited goods and money between Portugal and Normandy.
The arrested man will be presented to the Court of Appeal in Évora for the application of a coercive measure.
