A middle-aged woman has been taken into custody by investigators from the Vila Real Department, suspected of having taken the life of her partner's daughter, a girl of only eight years old. The crime is believed to have occurred in the municipality of Vila Pouca de Aguiar, in the Valpaços area, according to information from the Judicial Police.
The case began when, at the end of the previous day, an alert was issued about the child's disappearance in Carrazedo de Montenegro. The subsequent searches revealed evidence that the minor had been subjected to extreme violence, likely suffocated.
The investigation teams were able, in a short period of time, to identify the stepmother as the main person responsible. She was living with the victim's father. They also gathered evidence pointing to her involvement in the homicide and the disposal of the child's body in a location with dense vegetation in the Serra da Padrela mountain range.
The defendant will be brought before a magistrate to be questioned and for restrictions on her freedom to be determined. The Public Prosecutor's Office in Valpaços continues to direct the investigation.
