Twin doctors Pedro and João Vasco Barreira, known on social media as 'Twin Docs', have been detained on suspicion of qualified fraud against the Social Security and con artistry. The case involves 13 suspects.

The Judicial Police detained, on Wednesday, brothers Pedro and João Vasco Barreira, both doctors and digital personalities under the designation "Twin Docs". The accusation against the two twins concerns a fraudulent scheme aimed at obtaining early retirement. The investigation also involves eleven further people, making thirteen suspects in total.

The detained men were born in Chaves in 1988 and gained online popularity through health-related content directed at an audience of more than 76,000 followers on Instagram. Pedro works in General and Family Medicine, whilst João Vasco is an oncologist. They work for the CUF group and are experts with the Social Security Institute.

The crimes attributed to them include qualified fraud against the Social Security, qualified con artistry and document falsification. Doctor Emuna Mia was also detained in the course of this investigation.

Beyond clinical practice, the two brothers produce a podcast called "Double Shift" and recently launched a work on prevention and cure.
