Prosecutor supports paternal guardianship for minor who witnessed her mother's death in Algés
The Public Prosecutor's Office argues that custody of the four-year-old girl, who witnessed the murder of her mother, Gabriela Barbosa, in Algés, municipality of Oeiras, should be granted to the paternal family, according to Correio da Manhã.
The paternal grandmother is currently in Portugal and has already had in-person contact with the minor, as well as with the 15-year-old boy responsible for the crime. Since the beginning of the case, this side of the family has expressed willingness to demonstrate to the Portuguese authorities that it meets the necessary conditions to assume custody of the child.
The intention is to transfer the minor to Brazil. The maternal family, for its part, is said not to have been notified of the proceedings.
The 15-year-old killed his mother following an alleged argument. The four-year-old sister was present in the home at the time of the crime. Gabriela Barbosa's body remained inside the house until the moment the minor confessed the murder to the authorities. According to the boy's own account, the mother systematically abused his younger sister.
The minor's fate is expected to be known by this Wednesday.
