Public Prosecutor investigates lead pellet shootings in Matosinhos

The Matosinhos Department of Investigation and Criminal Action (DIAP) has opened an inquiry into an incident in which five people were wounded by lead pellets in a public street. The events occurred on 28 June at 20:20 on Rua Roberto Ivens in the municipality of Matosinhos.

According to the PSP, the five victims — four men and one woman — were walking along the street when they were struck by pellets, apparently fired from an air-pressure gun. The injuries sustained were classified as apparently minor, consisting of bruises and abrasions.

At the scene, PSP officers collected three lead pellets that were on the ground. These were seized and constitute evidence in the case. An ambulance from São Mamede de Infesta Fire Service provided assistance to the victims, with one of them being transported to hospital.

The PSP took charge of the case and referred the established facts to the Public Prosecutor, which initiated the investigation through the local DIAP. The Office of the Attorney General confirmed the existence of the ongoing inquiry.

Several witnesses heard by the Lusa agency, who preferred to remain anonymous, indicated that the number of people struck may be higher and that the incidents may have occurred on different days.
