The Public Prosecution Service is requesting that guardianship of the four-year-old girl who witnessed the murder of her own mother in Algés be awarded to the paternal family of the young suspect, according to Correio da Manhã. The paternal grandmother is already in Portugal and has maintained in-person contact with the child.
The alleged perpetrator is a 15-year-old boy, and the fatally attacked victim was his own mother. The girl, who was present at the time of the events, was left in a situation of abandonment following the crime.
The paternal grandmother travelled to Portugal and has already been with her four-year-old granddaughter, as well as with the 15-year-old adolescent currently identified as the perpetrator of the homicide. The presence of the family member in national territory is considered relevant to the decision regarding guardianship of the child.
The Public Prosecution Service maintains that awarding guardianship to the paternal family constitutes the most appropriate solution for the protection and stability of the girl, taking into account the exceptional circumstances of the case.
