Public Prosecutor Reopens Investigation into Death of Ukrainian Woman in Abrantes and Orders Mobile Phone Examination
The Public Prosecutor has ordered the case concerning the death of Viktoriia Katyukova to be reopened, one year after her body was found in a reservoir in Abrantes.
Case 'Vika': Public Prosecutor Orders Forensic Analysis of Mobile Phone of Young Ukrainian Woman Found Dead in Abrantes
The death of Viktoriia Katyukova, aged 25, remains unexplained more than a year after her body was discovered in a reservoir in Abrantes. Correio da Manhã reports that the Public Prosecutor has ordered the case to be reopened — after it had previously been closed — to carry out new investigative steps, with particular emphasis on forensic analysis of the mobile phone of the young Ukrainian woman known as 'Vika'.
'Vika's body was found by a fisherman on 17 April last year, following several days of being missing. The victim's mother refused to accept the closure of the case and pointed to a series of failures in the investigation conducted up to that point. The Public Prosecutor upheld the family's objections.
In a decision dated the 18th of this month, the prosecutor responsible for the case determined that "the contents of the victim's mobile phone should be analysed for the period from 1 April 2025 to 16 April 2025, analysis of contacts made during that period, messages sent and received, and analysis of access to digital accounts". The magistrate set a three-month deadline for the completion of these investigative steps.
The prosecutor left additional instructions: "should suspicious messages or communications be found, the respective parties involved must be identified and called for questioning".
