44-year-old woman arrested attempting to bring drugs into Coimbra prison

Drug concealed in trainer intercepted at entrance to prison facility
A 44-year-old woman was arrested by the Judicial Police of the Centre whilst attempting to bring narcotics into Coimbra prison, according to nowcanal.pt.
During routine inspection at the entrance to the facility, prison guards found, in a package hidden in one of the suspect's trainers, a sheet of paper impregnated with synthetic cannabis substances.
Faced with the situation of flagrant offence, the prison services retained the woman and immediately contacted the Judicial Police of the Centre. The incident fell within the possibility of a scheduled external visit to an inmate attempting to introduce prohibited substances in a prison environment.
The inspectors went to the scene and conducted investigative procedures that confirmed the nature of the confiscated sheet of paper: the document was impregnated with several synthetic cannabis substances.
The suspect was detained to be brought before initial judicial interrogation, and is charged with the crime of aggravated drug trafficking.
