Nine of 12 drug-trafficking suspects arrested in Braga remanded in custody
The PSP in Braga seized more than ten kilograms of drugs valued at around half a million euros. Nine of the 12 arrested were remanded in custody after their initial judicial hearing.
PSP Braga operation results in custody orders for nine drug-trafficking suspects
Nine of the 12 suspects arrested by the PSP in Braga for drug trafficking were remanded in custody on Friday following their appearance before a judge, reports Correio da Manhã. Three of the 11 who attended the hearing chose to make statements. One of those arrested had previously been released on the orders of the prosecutor in charge of the case.
The operation, carried out on Wednesday, resulted in the seizure of more than ten kilograms of drugs with an estimated street value of around half a million euros. The authorities described this as the largest drug seizure ever carried out by the PSP in Braga.
The suspect group, described by authorities as having some organisational complexity, adopted counter-surveillance measures. Part of the seized drugs was destined for the Picoto social housing estate in Braga.
The investigation lasted approximately one year. On Wednesday, 13 search warrants were executed in the city of Braga and in the Porto Metropolitan Area. During one of the stops, a PSP officer was injured in the knee when the targeted suspect, in an attempted escape, "drove the motorbike against the officer's personal vehicle".
