Father kills son by mistake during row with neighbour during the blackout

A father was convicted of homicide after killing his own son by mistake during a row with a neighbour that occurred on the day of the blackout in Portugal. The case was reported by Correio da Manhã.

According to the prosecution, the man left his home equipped with two kitchen knives, acting "in defence of his son and with intent to commit murder". During the course of the confrontation, he fatally struck his son, whom he intended to protect, in a fatal case of mistaken identity amid the chaos generated by the situation.

The court established as proven the defendant's intent to commit murder at the moment he picked up the knives and went out onto the street, regardless of the fact that the victim was, in fact, his own son and not the neighbour he had targeted.
