The Judicial Police arrested a man aged 20 years and constituted a second, aged 18 years, as a suspect in three aggravated robbery offences—one in attempted form—and document forgery, according to information released by policiajudiciaria.pt. The arrests were made by the Southern Directorate and the Criminal Investigation Department of Portimão.
The facts date back to 30 June, in the Almancil area, where two men on motorcycles approached victims inside a vehicle and, under threat of a firearm, demanded the surrender of high-value watches. The immediate reaction of the victims prevented the robbery from being completed.
On 24 August, in the same location and with identical modus operandi, the suspects stole a wristwatch valued at 35,000 euros from a victim who was travelling on a public road. In both cases, the aggrieved parties were assaulted during the criminal act.
On 4 September, in Lagoa, the suspects approached a food delivery courier and, under threat of a firearm, stole their motorcycle and personal belongings.
To hinder identification, the suspects frequently changed vehicles and used false registration plates on the motorcycles used in the robberies. During home and non-home searches, instruments of crime were seized, including a replica firearm and goods stolen from victims.
The 18-year-old suspect, a foreign national in irregular situation in Portugal, was brought before the criminal court of Portimão, which ordered his periodic attendance at the police station in his area of residence. The 20-year-old detainee awaits first judicial interrogation for the definition of coercive measures.
The investigation continues under the charge of the Judicial Police, with the aim of identifying other co-perpetrators and determining the extent of the group's activity. The inquiry is directed by the Public Prosecution Service of the Faro Public Prosecution Office (DIAP).
