The Judicial Police arrested a 39-year-old man accused of starting a fire in a wooded area in Estarreja municipality, Aveiro district. The incident dates back to 14 May this year.
The detainee is strongly suspected of the crime of forest fire. According to the investigation, the act is believed to have been committed as part of a dispute with relatives living near the site where the flames broke out.
The authorities established that the fire was started using direct flame in a vast area covered with vegetation. Prompt detection of the incident by firefighters made it possible to extinguish it quickly, preventing more serious damage.
