The Public Security Police (PSP) arrested, on Sunday, 30 August, a 61-year-old man, of foreign nationality, at Humberto Delgado airport in Lisbon, on suspicion of drug trafficking, as reported by Google News PT — Crime (pt).
The suspect arrived in Lisbon on a flight from Rio de Janeiro and was selected for questioning after Border Guards identified inconsistencies in his statements about the duration of his stay in the Schengen Area, according to the PSP.
During an inspection of his luggage, authorities detected "various items apparently intended for domestic use, namely pots, lids, serving dishes and wooden spoons, whose composition and characteristics raised suspicions", the PSP stated in a statement.
The objects were subjected to X-ray control, which revealed "the presence of organic material inside". It was subsequently confirmed that the items concealed narcotic substance. A rapid test identified the material as synthetic drug, with a total gross weight of 20.55 kilograms.
