Young man hospitalised in critical condition following accidental shooting in Vizela

According to CNN Portugal, a 21-year-old was left in "very serious" condition in the early hours of Wednesday after being struck by a gunshot to the head in a café in Vizela, in the district of Braga.

The owner of the establishment, 25 years old, was displaying the weapon to a group of friends when he discharged it accidentally, hitting the victim. The firearm in question is illegal, according to a source from the Judicial Police cited by Lusa.

The injured young man was transported immediately to Braga Hospital, where he remains hospitalised in Intensive Care.

The Judicial Police identified the author of the shooting and constituted him as a suspect, but did not detain him — "as the necessary prerequisites for doing so were not met", the source explained. The investigation is continuing to establish all aspects of the incident.
