Femicide in Eusebio Ayala: two women kidnapped and one found dead in cemetery

A violent femicide shook the city of Eusebio Ayala, in Cordillera department, during the early morning hours of the holiday, according to abc.com.py.
Two women leaving a rodeo event in the vicinity were intercepted by a white Toyota Fortuner pickup truck whilst travelling on a motorcycle. Witnesses reported that the victims were forcibly loaded into the vehicle, whose driver briefly spoke on a mobile phone before leaving the scene. The motorcycle was left abandoned on the road.
The first alert call reached the Eusebio Ayala police station at around 05:40 in the morning. "According to neighbours, (they were taken) by force, but then they spoke for approximately three minutes. The driver spoke on his mobile phone with someone and then they left the place," explained general commissioner Luis Justiniano, director of the Cordillera department police.
Nearly two hours later, at around 07:20, a new call alerted officers to the presence of two bodies inside the city cemetery. Upon arrival at the location, agents confirmed that both women had been brutally beaten.
The deceased victim was identified as Rebeca Martínez, 28 years old. Commissioner Justiniano confirmed that the deceased had a criminal record for drug trafficking. The second victim, Carolina Aguilar, 32 years old, survived the attack with serious injuries and was urgently transported to the Regional Hospital in Caacupé, where she remains hospitalised.
Personnel from the Investigations division and forensic specialists from the National Police deployed to the cemetery for evidence collection and technical inspection of the site.
The case was assigned to prosecutor Norma Salinas, from Unit No. 1 of Eusebio Ayala, who is coordinating proceedings to determine the exact circumstances of the crime, establish whether firearms or other weapons were used, and locate the whereabouts of the occupants of the white pickup truck.
Authorities do not rule out that the attack is linked to a settling of scores, given the criminal record of the deceased victim.
