Police incursion in Asunción: one arrested and at least six detained
The National Police and officers from the Lynx Group carried out a preventive operation in the neighbourhoods of Roberto L. Petit, Bañado Sur and La Chacarita in Asunción, according to npy.com.py. The objective was to locate persons with arrest warrants and prevent criminal acts.
Chief Commissioner José Santacruz, head of Prevention for the Asunción Area, led the deployment under the directives of General Commissioner Francisco Ávalos. The controls were concentrated in the sector known as the "Favela", an area that connects Roberto L. Petit with the Morotî stream.
During the intervention, a man with an active arrest warrant for robbery and aggravated robbery was detained, who also had a criminal record for other offences. At least six persons were detained and transferred to the 21st Police Station to verify identities and background records.
The officers also conducted checks related to the possession of prohibited substances and pending court cases. In parallel, another police contingent operated in the Ricardo Brugada neighbourhood, where several persons were detained for identification purposes.
In that sector, a man attempted to flee through the corridors upon noticing the presence of uniformed officers, which resulted in a foot chase. The operation concluded a short distance from the start of the pursuit, with scuffles recorded between some residents and officers.
The Police indicated that this type of procedure is part of a scheme of periodic incursions aimed at preventing theft and robbery, as well as apprehending persons wanted by the courts. The arrested and detained individuals remained at the disposal of the authorities once their backgrounds had been verified.
