DIICOT prosecutors have detained two men accused of international and domestic trafficking of risk and high-risk drugs, following a significant seizure carried out on the A1 motorway, reports adevarul.ro.
According to investigators, on 4 June the two—a 57-year-old Ukrainian citizen and a 23-year-old Romanian—brought approximately 26 kilograms of cannabis and 4 kilograms of cocaine into Romania. The drugs entered the country through the Nădlac border crossing point, hidden in a specially arranged compartment beneath a false floor of the vehicle.
On Romanian territory, the 57-year-old man was caught red-handed whilst transporting the prohibited substances on the A1 motorway. The substances were intended for sale, according to DIICOT.
"On 04.06.2026, the defendants brought into the country, through the Nădlac border crossing point, quantities of approximately 26 kilograms cannabis (risk drug) and 4 kilograms cocaine (high-risk drug), the drugs being hidden beneath a false floor of a car," DIICOT stated.
Prosecutors are to refer the case to the judge for rights and freedoms at Bucharest Court with a proposal for 30 days of preventive detention.
The operation was carried out jointly with police officers from the Organised Crime Fighting Brigade Bucharest, with the support of the Motorway Police Brigade and the General Police Directorate of Bucharest Municipality, through Police Section 21.
