A man who had just been released from prison following a conviction for assault has been taken into custody again, this time accused of domestic violence.

The incident occurred on the night of 9 July 2026 in a flat in the municipality of Sfântu Gheorghe. At around 01:50, emergency services were alerted that a woman was being mistreated by her partner with whom she lived. At the scene, law enforcement officers found that the victim bore signs of blows to the face, but refused medical assistance.

According to investigators, the argument broke out unexpectedly, and alcohol consumption aggravated the situation. The assailant was not at home when police arrived, but was apprehended later and taken for questioning.

What counted against the suspect was his criminal history. The man had been released not long ago from prison, where he had served a sentence for violent offences. The prosecutor at the Office of the District Court of Sfântu Gheorghe requested and obtained his detention for one day, and on 10 July the judge for rights and freedoms issued a preventive arrest warrant for one month.

The case remains open, and the man is being investigated for domestic violence.
