Five suspects before judges after violent protest in Victoria Square
According to m.digi24.ro, five of the people identified as instigators at the violent protest on Tuesday in Victoria Square were transported Wednesday evening by van to the Court of Sector 1, following hearings at police stations. Prosecutors requested preventive arrest for all five.
The court hearing, which lasted over two hours, ended with a single preventive arrest decision — 30 days — and four house arrest measures.
Digi24 journalist Teodora Chiuș reported that among those placed under house arrest is one of the most well-known supporters of Călin Georgescu, who allegedly incited violence in Victoria Square on TikTok. He declared that he was in the square out of solidarity with farmers, citing his rural background, and denied that he had struck gendarmes.
A sixth suspect was detained the same day whilst attempting to reach his home in Bihor County. A weapon was found on him.
Investigators reconstructed the sequence of events step by step: police and gendarmes first identified those who had incited the shepherds, then the members of the groups that would have orchestrated the attacks on gendarmes and the spread of violence in the Victoria Square area. On this basis, prosecutors presented proposals for preventive arrest against the five.
