Law enforcement in Cluj County have succeeded in locating two individuals who were attempting to evade serving sentences handed down by the court. One of them, a 42-year-old father, had constructed an underground refuge in the area of the Hașdeu student halls, covering the entrance with grass, clothing and various objects to avoid being detected, reports G4Media.ro, citing Agerpres.
The operation was carried out on Wednesday by the Cluj County Police Inspectorate. The two individuals targeted were men tried for serious offences: one for assault on bodily integrity and health, the other for offences against sexual liberty and integrity.
The 42-year-old father, domiciled in Cluj-Napoca, had received a sentence of 6 years and 8 months for abusive behaviour towards his own children. Officers from the Special Actions Service apprehended him and escorted him to the county police headquarters. The investigation shows that, in the period 2018-2019, under the influence of excessively consumed alcoholic beverages, the individual systematically terrorised the two minor children, exposing them to situations capable of affecting their physical and mental development.
The second fugitive, aged 39, also from Cluj-Napoca, had been sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison for sexual assault. When law enforcement officers approached, he attempted to evade them by jumping over a fence in the direction of Piezișă Street. During his flight he struck his leg, sustaining lacerations. He was quickly apprehended by the teams pursuing him, taken to hospital for treatment, and then to police.
The assault for which he had been convicted took place on 14 July 2025, at midday, on Clinicilor Street. The suspect had reportedly approached a woman in a vulnerable situation and touched her indecently without her consent.
The two convicts were subsequently transferred to Gherla Prison to begin serving their sentences.
