Man pursued over Olt murder: victim found in suitcase near Ionești dam
The Vâlcea Court issued a preventive arrest warrant against Băltățeanu Gheorghe Vlăduț, aged 30, suspected of killing a 28-year-old woman whose body was discovered in a suitcase on the Olt river.
Arrest warrant issued after discovery of body in suitcase on Olt
The Vâlcea Court issued a preventive arrest warrant on Wednesday against Băltățeanu Gheorghe Vlăduț, aged 30, under investigation for murder, according to ProTV News. The man, who has his residence in the locality of Mirești in Vâlcea county, was put on national wanted list after authorities were unable to locate him.
According to the Romanian Police, the suspect is said to have left Romanian territory before the victim's body was discovered. The institution's website states: "The person is under investigation for committing the crime of murder and is being sought for the execution of the preventive arrest warrant."
Victim, a 28-year-old woman from Dolj
On Tuesday, 22 September, fishermen on the bank of the Olt river, in the area of the Ionești dam, spotted a heavy suitcase floating on the water's surface. They brought it to shore, alerted the 112 emergency service and notified police. Inside was the lifeless body of a 28-year-old woman from Dolj county. The suitcase was grey in colour, made of waterproof material, with dimensions of approximately 80 by 50 centimetres — characteristics which, according to judicial sources, would have favoured flotation. The victim's body was completely undressed.
Autopsy results
The spokesperson for the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Vâlcea Court, Adrian Vrăbete, stated that the autopsy established violent death, occurring on 21 September, one day before the body was discovered. The cause of death was traumatic and haemorrhagic shock.
The victim presented two traumatic injuries to the head, five broken ribs, as well as injuries, abrasions and wounds to the legs. "As to the mechanism of production, it was established that these would have been caused by striking with hard objects, an object with a sharp point and sharp edge, possibly a knife, and by thoraco-abdominal compression, possibly by the suspect lying on the victim," Vrăbete explained.
Blood stains on mattress
During the same Wednesday, investigators carried out a home search at the suspect's residence. Representatives of the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Vâlcea Court reported that multiple stains appearing to be blood were identified on a sleeping mattress that is said to have been used by both the victim and the suspect.
The investigation is being conducted by prosecutors from the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Vâlcea Court, together with police officers from the Vâlcea County Police Inspectorate.
