A leader of a religious community in Cluj county has been held in provisional detention after several teenage girls reported abuse committed during spiritual gatherings hosted by him at his home.

A court in Huedin has ordered the provisional detention for one month of a man in his seventies who coordinated a religious group in the locality of Călățele. The decision comes in the context of serious accusations of a sexual nature made by several young women, according to information released by Radio Cluj.
Law enforcement carried out simultaneous raids at the suspect's properties in Huedin and Călățele. Evidence gathered as a result of these actions indicates that, during the course of 2023, the defendant allegedly exploited the moral authority he held over his congregation to force a 17-year-old girl into non-consensual intimate relations.
Furthermore, during the period 2023-2024, the same man allegedly indecently touched three other girls, aged between 15 and 18. According to preliminary statements, these incidents allegedly occurred during spiritual gatherings held at the defendant's residence.
The judicial authorities are continuing investigative proceedings under the coordination of the competent prosecutor's office, with further people who may have come into contact with the group to be questioned.
