A 38-year-old man has been arrested by investigators after bringing over one kilogramme of banned substance 4-MMC into the country, concealed in microtubes and condoms, according to a DIICOT Bacău investigation.

Investigators from DIICOT – Bacău territorial structure have detained a 38-year-old man, suspected of bringing over one kilogramme of high-risk drug into Romania, originating from Great Britain. The concealment methods used included small polypropylene tubes with caps, as well as condoms.

According to a statement from the institution, cited by Ziarul Amprenta, the suspect allegedly persuaded a 23-year-old youth to send the package through an international courier company. Once it reached national territory, the parcel was collected by the man, who was however intercepted by law enforcement.

At the beginning of July 2026, law enforcement officers conducted raids on three residences in the city of Bacău. On this occasion, bags and containers with crystalline materials, powders and suspect plants, tablets of different shapes and shades, grinding devices, objects bearing traces of psychoactive substances, and other evidence were found and seized.

Additionally, investigators placed a lien on three vehicles owned by the suspect. On 9 July, prosecutors ordered his detention, and the following day requested that the Bacău court of law issue a remand in custody warrant for one month.

The operation involved officers from Bacău County Police, the Special Operations Service, Nădlac Border Police and Bacău Mobile Gendarmerie Unit.

The suspect enjoys the presumption of innocence throughout the criminal proceedings.
