A 51-year-old man from the commune of Ulmeni in Buzău county is in custody and accused of attempting to kill a 74-year-old woman after she rejected his sexual advances.

Magistrates in Buzău issued an arrest warrant against a 51-year-old local man from the village of Vâlcele, commune of Ulmeni. He is suspected of attempting to murder his neighbour, a 74-year-old pensioner who lived alone.
The incident occurred on 1 July 2026 in the afternoon. According to investigators from the Prosecutor's Office attached to Buzău Court, the defendant went to the victim's home and, displeased that the woman refused to engage in intimate relations with him, became violent. He used a knife to strike her multiple times in the neck and back area.
Medical crews that responded to the scene established that the elderly woman had seven wounds caused by cuts and stab wounds. Her state of health required emergency care.
Prosecutors charged the attacker with attempted murder. Judges approved the proposal for preventive arrest formulated by the Prosecutor's Office, ordering him to remain in custody for 30 days pending completion of the investigation.
