Man sent to trial for attempted murder after stabbing 12-year-old girl with sharpened screwdriver in Alba Iulia
A 45-year-old man from Alba Iulia has been sent to trial in preventive custody after premeditated attacks on a minor and her father with a modified screwdriver.

A 45-year-old man with no criminal record has been sent to trial in preventive custody for attempted murder and assault or other violence, after on 8 May 2026 attacking a 12-year-old minor on a street in Alba Iulia, according to News.ro. The motive was revenge against the girl's father — a feeling which, according to the aggressor's own statements, he had harboured for several years.
According to the indictment drawn up by the Prosecutor's Office attached to Alba Tribunal, the man was cycling when he deliberately intersected with the minor, who was also on a bicycle. He rode his bicycle into the victim's, destabilising her and causing the child to fall onto the asphalt.
Sequence of blows and severity of injuries
Once fallen to the ground, the girl was struck with fists and feet to the head, face and limbs. The aggressor subsequently grabbed her by the hair and smashed her head against the metal pole of a traffic sign. He then drove a screwdriver — with the tip specially sharpened on a grinder — five times into her chest and lumbar region.
Medical findings documented include facial haematomas, penetrating right thoracic wound with haemopneumothorax, left thoracic and right lumbar stab wounds, and multiple abrasions to the hands and feet. Recovery requires nearly two months of medical care, and the thoracic injury endangered her life, according to the criminal investigation records.
The minor's father, who was nearby, intervened to defend his daughter. "The defendant struck him with a fist to the face and twice with the same screwdriver to the left leg of the minor's father, who was nearby and who intervened in defence of his daughter, causing him traumatic injuries (haematoma and contused wound to upper lip, stab wounds to left calf and abrasion to right calf), requiring eight to ten days of medical care for recovery," the investigators state in the indictment.
Premeditation documented through statements and horror video clips
The investigation established that the deed was committed with premeditation for several reasons. The man admitted that his intention of revenge against the girl's father had formed several years ago and that he had contemplated it for a long time.
Examination of the manner of action revealed the use of a specially prepared object for attack: a screwdriver with a metal part 13.5 centimetres long, modified by grinding the tip, "capable of causing death", according to the indictment. On the date of the deed, the man carried the modified screwdriver in a rucksack, without any reasonable justification.
"From the circumstances in which he acted, it follows that conditions necessary for commission of the offence were created, on the date of the deed carrying the modified screwdriver in a rucksack, without any reasonable justification," the indictment states.
Premeditation was also supported by the defendant's digital activity: on the day of the attempted murder, as well as the day before, he had watched video clips containing crime scenarios from the horror category. "Thus resulted the existence of a prior resolution regarding commission of an assault act for purposes of revenge", the prosecutors explain in the indictment.
What the prosecution asked the court
After committing the deed, the man immediately left the scene, abandoning the victims. He was later detained and placed in preventive custody.
Through the indictment, the prosecutor requested that the court maintain the measure of preventive arrest against the defendant. At the same time, he requested special confiscation of the screwdriver used in the attack and maintenance of protective measures instituted over certain land of the defendant — measures imposed during the criminal investigation with a view to covering the material and moral damages caused to the victims.
