Bolojan questioned for over two hours at Iași DNA in the 1.5 million euro bribery case
Dismissed Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan was questioned on Monday at the headquarters of the National Anticorruption Directorate in Iași for over two hours in a case in which businessman Fănel Bogos is being investigated for buying influence and inciting acts assimilated to corruption. According to Gândul, Bolojan was present as a witness, not as a suspect.
The Government's spokesperson, Ioana Dogioiu, confirmed the status of the dismissed prime minister in the case and specified that he answered all questions from the investigators.
"Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan was questioned today as a witness at Iași DNA in the case numbered 44/12/P/2024/d1. The questioning concerned the circumstances of the audience granted by Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan to businessman Fănel Bogos. The Prime Minister made all the clarifications requested and which, moreover, he has communicated publicly every time he was asked about this subject," Dogioiu stated.
According to judicial sources, Bogos — the administrator of Vanbet SRL — allegedly paid 1.5 million euros to obtain an audience with the head of the Executive. Bolojan's name appears in the case in this context.
Mureșan reacts on Facebook immediately after questioning
Shortly after Bolojan left the DNA headquarters, Liberal Siegfried Mureșan posted a message on Facebook in defence of his party leader. The former designated prime minister presented no concrete arguments, but stated that he is convinced of his innocence.
"I am convinced that Ilie Bolojan will tell the prosecutors exactly what he has told us in public. I am convinced that, whenever asked, he will say the same thing, and the conclusion will be the same: that, in the case in question, he is a witness, he is not guilty in any way," Mureșan wrote.
Attack on the PSD
In the same message, Mureșan diverted attention from Bolojan's case and launched implicit accusations against the Social Democratic Party — the party that refused to vote for his investiture in Parliament.
"I would be more interested to find out where the shoebox files of other people who held responsibility in the Romanian state are and what they are hiding. I would be more interested to find out from what sources of income and for what purpose other politicians travelled with private aeroplanes to luxury destinations," Mureșan added, without naming specific individuals.
The case concerns mainly the conduct of businessman Bogos, and Bolojan remains, for now, in the position of witness.
